MC Debut Artist // Cee Stitchery

Carrie Fahl has been stitching away whimsical and adorable creations since 2006 when she was first taught her how to cross stitch by her mother and grandmother. Since then, she’s developed her skills through experimentation and practice to bring her cute fabric illustrations and designs to life through Cee Stitchery. Drawing from nature, folk art, and “the little things” of life, Carrie’s joyful heart comes through clearly in her work. We are pleased to have Carrie as our Debut Artist for the upcoming May 5-7…

Effortless, comfy, and stylishly classic. Tessa Hughes goes back to the luxurious basics with her minimalist and chic line of apparel. Her pieces are “thoughtfully designed with REAL women’s bodies in mind” and flattering on all kinds of body types. MC Debut Artist // ntm. jewellery

Meet our very first Debut Artist of the year, Nicola Macklin. All the way from New Zealand, the jeweller behind ntm. jewellery now works out of her Revelstoke studio, surrounded by the inspiring mountain views. One of the things we love about Nicola’s work is how each hand-crafted piece is unique not only through process but also material. Her use, where possible, of recycled silver and copper as well as other found materials creates beauty from unexpected places and causes us all to consider whether…

MC Debut Artist // Jules Sontag

Jules Sontag is a new jeweler to the MC, and she creates all of her pieces by hand. Every new piece starts out as metal sheet or wire. Once the design is finalized, it is brought to life using traditional metalsmithing techniques such as sawing, filing, sanding, hammering and soldering. Her one-of-a-kind pieces take days to carefully hand craft, and are full of intention. We absolutely love her entire collection, and are especially drawn to her brass and silver earrings featuring rare King’s Manassa turquoise….

Way back in 2004, a group of Industrial Design students, Carmen Douville, Dara Humniski, Doha Lindskoog, and Anna Thomas formed Loyal Loot. Twelve years later, Loyal Loot has exhibited their line of furniture and housewares including their famous Log Bowl, all over the world. Doha Lindskoog and Anna Thomas are now the primary partners, running Loyal Loot from their studios in Calgary and Edmonton. Debut Artist - L&R Studio

MC Debut Artist // L&R Studio

Whimsical, witty, and one of a kind. That’s how we would describe our debut artists for December 2-4. L&R Studio is run by Lisa and Rob and is based out of Southern Manitoba. Together they produce a beautiful array of jewelry and housewares. Everything that they make is hand-crafted by Lisa, giving each piece its own unique personality. After seeing the playful ceramic “pot heads” and colourful, braided rugs, we just had to know more about the process and inspiration behind L&R studio’s delightful pieces….

MC Debut Artist // Bec Kilpatrick + Andrew Pavlidis

Our first set of debut artists this Holiday Season are the adventure-seeking couple: Bec Kilpatrick and Andrew Pavlidis. Hailing from Byron Bay, Australia, Bec has travelled all around the world with a camera and sketchbook in hand. Her deeply nature-based illustrations and photographs work together as she explores the way these two mediums meet and interact. Originally from Ontario, Andrew is a travel and adventure photographer who has captured everything from clifftop views of waterfalls to starry night skies to horizon reaching deserts. He plays…

Christine Sheu and Kevin Helm are the talented duo behind 2point54, a furniture and product design company located in Calgary, AB. The company started as a collaboration between two friends who shared an obsession with meticulously crafted items, and has most recently been chosen as the second series of our MC Debut Artists this holiday season. We had a chance to pick the brains of these two pals, and hear their thoughts on their process, being in a partnership, and the lessons and freedom found by…

The Market Collective receives hundreds of submissions for each event, and we spend hours upon hours with the curatorial team reviewing each one. Through this process, we come across an artist like Philip Kanwischer. Talented, driven, and incredibly intriguing, Philip has been chosen as the MC’s first debut artist of our holiday season. You can see his work the weekend of November 28-30 at the Chinese Cultural Centre. Market Collective had a chance to ask Philip some questions about his work, his process, and his life….
