Hi everyone,

We just want to let everyone know the recent changes happening with the Market Collective. We have been trying to obtain this space for permanent use since January 2010, and submitted a proposal May 2010. Unfortunately, a print framing company was chosen instead, and will be moving in July 2010.

Although we were saddened by this decision, we are optimistic that this will lead to better things for the MC. We are currently in the process of officially registering as a Non-Profit Organization, and will be looking for a permanent space to call home in the next two months. We hope to resume the Market Collective Fall 2010.

There are many vacant spaces owned by the City of Calgary, however, many of these spaces are not made available for community rental, or their rates are set at a corporate rate ($35-$40 per sq. ft.)

We ask that the City of Calgary recognize the need for community spaces to flourish. We ask that they support these initiatives through affordable and available spaces by utilizing vacant buildings, provide resources for art initiatives, and proper licensing and coding that reflect these community frameworks.

If you would like to see the city move forward with these ideas, please sign our letter of support, at the Roasterie Cafe (314 10th Street NW). These signatures will act as a preliminary step when addressing the City of Calgary.
