Terms and Conditions

 

Volunteers are an essential part of the Market Collective (MC). Without their time, energy, and enthusiasm, the MC would not exist as it is today. This document below outlines what volunteers can expect from the MC, and what the MC has come to expect from its volunteers.

 

By becoming part of the Market Collective volunteer team you agree to the following terms and conditions:

 

As a volunteer, you have the right to:         

  • Be fully informed of the roles and responsibilities of the volunteer role(s) you take part in;

  • Have a clear understanding of what is required of you in your assigned volunteer role(s)

  • Be properly informed of any policies and procedures related to your specific volunteer role(s);

  • Be provided with sufficient tools to complete your task successfully;

  • Be comfortable executing each task that is assigned or selected;

  • Receive support on task understanding and execution when required;

  • Be treated with mutual respect by staff, public and other volunteers;

  • To feel safe, respected, and supported;

  • To have the opportunity to provide feedback, both positive and negative, both in your name and anonymously. Link here: Volunteer Suggestions.

  • To be recognized for your contributions and efforts.

 

Your responsibilities as a volunteer are to:

  • Represent the values of the Market Collective;

  • Treat all volunteers, staff, and public with respect.
  • Assist in maintaining an atmosphere of safety and support.
  • Have a great time!
  • Fully understand and be fully prepared for your shift though having attended all training, orientations, reading any materials and having asked any questions you may have before your shift;

  • Be properly informed of, and abide by, all policies and procedures related to your role;

  • Fully understand and perform all duties and responsibilities required of your specific volunteer role(s);

  • Arrive prepared with your volunteer shirt and any required role materials at your shift or meet up location on time;

  • Not take advantage of relationships with vendors, sponsors or to use money or properties belonging to the MC and affiliates as your own;

  • Perform all duties to the best of your ability and maintain a team-oriented attitude;

  • Maintain an unaltered state of mind which includes abstaining from all alcohol and recreational drug use while on shift.

 

Failure to adhere to these responsibilities will lead to volunteer review and potential dismissal from your volunteer role with the Market Collective.

 

Benefits of being a volunteer include a:

  • Market Collective swag including a MC T-shirt and Tote bag;

  • Food voucher for each shift completed;

  • $10 Gift certificate for each shift completed;

  • Photo Booth voucher for each shift completed *If applicable;

  • Admission for weekends of which you volunteer

  • If bar shifts are required for your role Market Collective will cover ProServe certification

 

Market Collective Commits to the following:

  • To assign volunteer roles and duties appropriately based on skill level, qualifications, and experience without bias.

  • To successfully prepare all volunteers for their roles by providing both training and additional documentation outlining policies, procedures, and responsibilities.

  • To provide volunteer assignments and schedules in a reasonable amount of time for volunteers to prepare and make necessary travel and other arrangements.

  • To provide a means for all volunteers to submit feedback including the option of anonymous submissions via an annual survey each year.

  • To assess and review all volunteer roles, duties, and minimum requirements for effectiveness on an ongoing basis.

  • To recognize the contributions of all volunteers.

  • To take the lead in creating an atmosphere of safety, respect, and support.

 

Market Collective has the right:

  • To screen both incoming and returning volunteers as required

  • To set minimums standards and skills required for volunteer roles.

  • To expect that all volunteers will fulfill their duties and responsibilities as required by their roles, to the best of their abilities, and in accordance with MC policies and procedures.

  • To, at all times, protect the best interests of the MC its staff, and volunteers.

  • To expect that all volunteers will maintain a high standard of conduct and behavior while interacting with other volunteers, staff, venue staff, artists, vendors and the general public, as representatives of the Market Collective.

  • To take appropriate action in case of breach of such rights and agreements.

  • The Market Collective is not responsible for any lost or stolen items, personal injury due to your, Market Collective, its partners, staff, artist or any third party.

 

In agreeing to volunteer with Market Collective you also agree to the following terms and conditions;

 

  1. Indemnification.  I agree to indemnify and defend Market Collective against all claims, causes of action, damages, judgments, costs or expenses, including attorney fees and other litigation costs, which may in any way arise from my volunteer participation.

  2. Assumption of the Risk and Release. I recognize that there are certain inherent risks associated with the activities in participating at the Market Collective and I assume full responsibility for personal injury to myself and further release and discharge Market Collective for injury or death.

  3. Lost or stolen items. I understand that Market Collective is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged personal item and thus assume responsibility for items I bring to the Market Collective.

  4. Anti-Harassment and Anti-Discrimination Policy. Market Collective is committed to providing an environment free of discrimination and harassment, where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity, can contribute fully and have equal opportunities.

 

Under the Alberta Human Rights Code, every person has the right to be free from harassment and discrimination. Harassment and discrimination will not be tolerated, condoned or ignored at Market Collective. If a claim of harassment or discrimination is proven, disciplinary measures will be applied, up to and including termination of membership.
